The IPCLU Project aims to:
-
Support rewarding clinical education roles that allow patient care team members to further enhance the quality of patient care.
-
Utilize existing resources more efficiently and effectively to increase the number and quality of clinical learning opportunities.
-
Bridge the perceived gap between academic and clinical roles by having students, faculty and patient care team members work together to enhance and achieve learning objectives; develop the knowledge base of the professions involved; and deliver quality interprofessional care.
-
Inform the development and implementation of effective and efficient strategies for interprofessional clinical education.
-
Allow students to practice interprofessional care in the clinical learning environment.
Our research questions are:
-
What are student perceptions of their interprofessional clinical learning experience on the pilot units before and after the development and implementation of the IPCLU models of teaching and learning?
-
What are faculty perceptions of their experience of working with interprofessional students and interprofessional patient care team members on the pilot units before and after implementation of the IPCLU models?
-
What are patient care team member perceptions of their experience of working with interprofessional students, faculty, and other patient care team members on the pilot units before and after implementation of the IPCLU models?
-
What are the barriers and facilitators to implementing a new model of clinical teaching and learning for interprofessional clinical education in an acute tertiary hospital in-patient care unit, rehabilitation hospital unit and continuing care facility?
-
What are the attributes of an effective model of interprofessional clinical teaching and learning in acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care?
